Happy Tuesday!!! It has been a while since I posted but I have been spending some time researching this whole Cantu controversy. If you haven't heard, they have announced that they will be adding a new ingredient, isopropyl alcohol aka (rubbing alcohol). The ingredient will be added to their 'Shea butter leave in conditioning repair cream.' Which wasn't the best news considering this is the most affordable product on the market. I personally do love their other products, and think that they are great for their price range. Over the last few days I watched a few videos so I could see the difference in the new formula vs. a Shea Moisture product. I know so many naturalists that use this product and are sad about this idea, but the real question is just how much of this "Rubbing alcohol" is in the new product. There is no information regarding how much it contains, but the ingredient is said to be a drying agent, but according to others it had one benefit, which was the time it took hair to dry after applying. The video I watched was helpful in comparing the Cantu leave in to a Shea Moisture one. The results. Shea: product is light but smells amazing, and needs to be applied more than cantu, but after 2 hours hair was smooth, not crunchy, still a bit wet but shiny in comparison to the cantu side. On the cantu side the formula was much thicker, and after 2 hours hair was quite crunchy, but dried much faster than Shea's product, the hair also appeared to be more frizzy in comparison. So with that being said, no isopropyl alcohol is not the most damaging thing for your hair in small amounts, but there are definitely some cons to consider before buying more Cantu products. I believe "Cancelling" the brand is a bit crazy but some people swear by it. I attached the video if you would like to see for yourself. I will be finishing my current supply of Cantu and no longer will be purchasing their leave ins because they unfortunately dry my hair out a lot. I hope this helped a few of you, will you be cancelling Cantu? Comment and let me know.
